UC Merced - UCSF BS to PharmD Pathway Program

Amadscientist, Wikipedia

Thomas Hawk
Overview
This program enables participants to obtain a bachelor of science (BS) degree from UC Merced in three years followed by a PharmD degree from UC San Francisco in three years, thus obtaining two degrees in a total of six years of study.
The program provides a smooth transition into pharmacy school, allowing participants to enter the workforce earlier and with considerable financial savings. Typically eight years of study are needed to earn both a BS and PharmD degree.
In close collaboration with UC Merced faculty we are developing a customized curriculum for program participants that meets UC Merced’s bachelor’s degree requirements and UCSF School of Pharmacy’s PharmD requirements.
The goal of this program is to motivate and prepare UC Merced students to matriculate into the UCSF School of Pharmacy and ultimately to become practicing pharmacists in medically underserved areas.
How does it work?
- Each year five students will be admitted into the program which begins at UC Merced.
- Students will participate in a series of networking and professional development activities including seminars, workshops, academic advising, and visits to UCSF.
- Each student will work with a pharmacist mentor to learn about the pharmacy profession and create their personal and professional development plan.
- After completing three years of studies at UC Merced, students who have maintained the program’s academic requirements will matriculate to UCSF School of Pharmacy.
- The students will be guaranteed placement for clinical rotations at our Fresno location.
Calendar
The program is expected to begin in January 2026.
