UCSF School of Pharmacy tops U.S. News survey list

The UCSF School of Pharmacy continues to rank number 1 among Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) programs in the United States, according to a new, 2012 survey published by U.S. News & World Report.

The survey results appear in the magazine’s 2013 issue of “American Best Graduate Schools,” which appeared online today at the U.S. News & World Report website and will be available at newsstands on April 3.

The 2012 ranking of doctor of pharmacy programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education is based on peer assessment surveys sent in the fall of 2011 to deans, administrators, and faculty at other pharmacy schools or accredited degree programs.

The survey asked respondents to rate the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding), with the UCSF School of Pharmacy receiving a field-leading 4.6 average assessment score.

The top-ranked four-year PharmD program admits 122 students each year for clinical training. The school also administers five PhD programs in the quantitative biosciences through the UCSF Graduate Division.

“Our goal has always been to push the boundaries of pharmacy education and to recruit the kind of student who will be tomorrow’s professional leaders,” said Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD. “The result is a student body that is beyond compare. The world desperately needs the advances these students will make toward new, effective, safe therapeutics for patients.”
