MacDougall to receive teaching award

Conan MacDougall, PharmD ’02, a faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, was recently selected for the Emerging Teaching Scholar Award by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Council of Faculties. The award “is designed to recognize excellence of our academic pharmacy faculty engaged in and/or supporting scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning.” MacDougall will receive the award in July at AACP’s annual meeting, held this year in Boston.
Since joining the UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty in 2005, MacDougall has received the School’s Long Teaching Award ten times and the Long Prize for Excellence in teaching four times. He was selected for the UCSF Academic Senate Campus Distinction in Teaching Award in 2009 and was inducted into the UCSF School of Medicine’s Academy of Medical Educators in 2015.
MacDougall says his educational philosophy is driven by trying to engage students. “The role of a teacher isn’t as ‘best explainer,’ but as a designer of learning experiences.”
