Guglielmo named interim dean of UCSF School of Pharmacy

Joseph Guglielmo, PharmD, has been named interim dean of the UCSF School of Pharmacy, and will take the reins of the school from outgoing Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD, as of July 1.

Guglielmo is an internationally recognized expert in the clinical use of antimicrobials and has served as chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy since 2006.

Brock becomes president of pharmacy leadership society

UCSF School of Pharmacy Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning Tina Brock, BSPharm, MSPH, EdD, became president of the national pharmacy leadership society, Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS), at the March 2012 meeting of the American Pharmacists Association in New Orleans.

Shoichet is the new director of the QB3 at UCSF

Computational chemist Brian Shoichet, PhD, a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, UCSF School of Pharmacy, is the new director of the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) at UCSF.

QB3, with research facilities at UC campuses in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz, has an academic director at each site, as well as a director who oversees operations as a whole.

Bero heads new WHO center studying, promoting global access to vital drugs

The office of Lisa Bero, PhD, on UCSF’s Laurel Heights campus has long been a key portal between the School of Pharmacy and the world at large, including countries where billions of people cannot get even the most vital life-saving drugs.

Nordberg becomes associate dean, finance and administration

Michael Nordberg, MPA/HSA, is the newly appointed associate dean of administration and finance for the UCSF School of Pharmacy. He served the position as interim associate dean from July 1, 2009 to September 26, 2011 when he accepted the position full time at the completion of a comprehensive recruitment for the job.

Cantilena appointed new ACDRS course director

Louis R. Cantilena, Jr., MD, PhD, is the newly appointed course director of the American Course on Drug Development and Regulatory Sciences (ACDRS) effective summer 2011. This two-year certificate program for pharmaceutical industry professionals is presented by the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences (BTS), UCSF Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine.

Williams named to lead UCSF School of Pharmacy IT

Michael Williams, MA, is the first executive director of academic, administrative, and research technology for the UCSF School of Pharmacy, effective August 1, 2011.

Brock named associate dean of teaching and learning

Education researcher Tina Penick Brock, BSPharm, MSPH, EdD, has been appointed associate dean of teaching and learning in the UCSF School of Pharmacy, effective March 11, 2011. She serves as the point person for all matters in the School related to educational affairs.

Bero represents The Cochrane Collaboration on the World Health Assembly

Lisa Bero, PhD, a faculty member in the UCSF School of Pharmacy was named to represent The Cochrane Collaboration on the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) after the Collaboration was awarded an Assembly seat on January 23, 2011. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organization that promotes high-quality research and evidenced-based decisions about health care.

Ortiz de Montellano named associate dean

Paul Ortiz de Montellano, PhD, is the newly appointed associate dean of research in the UCSF School of Pharmacy. The associate dean of research advises the UCSF School of Pharmacy dean and leaders on research trends, issues, and opportunities and represents the School's research agenda to the campus. Ortiz de Montellano is a professor in the School's Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
