UCSF School of Pharmacy #1 in Research Funding, 29th Year

For the 29th consecutive year, the UCSF School of Pharmacy ranks first among US pharmacy schools in contract and grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), according to figures for fiscal year 2007.

Koda-Kimble, Day, Yokoyama, Academy of Student Pharmacists, and Former Pharmacy Students Recognized at 2008 Annual APhA Meeting

UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty members and students were recognized with three honors at the 2008 annual meeting of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) held March 14-17, 2008 in San Diego, California. Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD (image right), dean of the School received the 2008 Outstanding Dean Award.

Benet Delivers Distinguished Lecture

Leslie Z. Benet, PhD, faculty member in the UCSF School of Pharmacy delivered the Seventh Distinguished Clinical Research Lecture to the UCSF faculty on October 17, 2007 on UCSF's Parnassus campus. The lecture is UCSF's highest recognition for excellence in clinical research.

Koda-Kimble Honored with Paul F. Parker Award

Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD, dean of the UCSF School of Pharmacy is the 2007 recipient of the Paul F. Parker Medal for Distinguished Service to the Profession of Pharmacy. The award was given October 14, 2007 by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy at its annual meeting in Denver, Colorado.

Nature Lists Shoichet Article Among Top 10

A research paper authored by UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty member Brian Shoichet, PhD, and colleagues appeared in the September 2007 list of The Nature Top Ten. The listing includes articles most frequently downloaded from the Nature website the preceding month. The article was also featured as Nature's cover story in its August 16, 2007 print edition.

California Poison Control System Wins Award for Marketing

The California Poison Control System (CPCS), which is administered by the UCSF School of Pharmacy, has won the 2007 International Award of Excellence from the Medical Marketing Association and the Coalition for Healthcare Communicators. The award recognizes the CPCS's consumer marketing campaign Don't Guess. Be Sure. and is the most prestigious award for marketing and communications in the area of health care.

Giacomini Elected to IOM

Kathy M. Giacomini, PhD, chair of the UCSF School of Pharmacy department of biopharmaceutical sciences, has been elected a member of the Institute of Medicine based upon her research achievements and commitment to service. Giacomini is an international leader in the field of membrane transporters and pharmacogenetics. She joins 3 other UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty members on the IOM membership roster:

Gibson Receives Chauncey I. Cooper Award

Robert D. Gibson, PharmD, UCSF School of Pharmacy alumnus and former associate dean, has been honored with the Chauncey I. Cooper Award by the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) in recognition of his sustained and distinguished service to the profession of pharmacy.

Hale Named MacArthur Fellow

Victoria Hale, PhD, UCSF School of Pharmacy PhD alumnus in pharmaceutical chemistry, and founder and CEO of the Institute for OneWorld Health is one of 25 prestigious 2006 MacArthur Fellows, as announced September 19, 2006, by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation of Chicago, Illinois. Fellows are selected for their creativity, originality, and potential to make important contributions in the future.

Dill Named for Distinguished Service by Biophysical Society

Ken A. Dill, PhD, UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty member, associate dean for research, and expert in protein folding has been named winner of the 2007 Distinguished Service Award by the Biophysical Society. Dill has served as president of the society from 1998 to 1999 and currently co-chairs the public affairs committee.
